I proposed with a little help from Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse, and Jiminy Cricket.
So it's no surprise to any of my friends as this happened almost a month ago, but it is newsworthy to the blogosphere! I'm engaged! I'm engaged! I'm engaged! It happened on September 4th around 10:10 PM during the fireworks show at Disney World's Magic Kingdom. It was an extremely magical experience that I hope the Ostrich will remember forever. Here is how it happened in her own words:
"It might not come as a big surprise to some of you when I say, I knew that Shaun was going to propose; I just didn't know when, where, or how. Now, don't think that my knowing this fact detracted from the magic of the moment because every single second was magical! All i can say is...when you know, you know. :)
...and I knew. Deep down in my heart I knew.
But let me get to the point. The Monday before Labor day, I was a little down because this huge Bull Dawgs fan shamefully forgot to order her football tickets! and because of my absent mindedness I was going to miss all the UGA home games this season.
In the midst of my wallowing I jokingly said to Shaun, "How about you don't go to the game and we use this three day weekend to get out of town? ;D". Shaun very nonchalantly said "Ok, where do you want to go?". I then cheekily responded "uh, only the happiest place on earth! let's go to DIsney World!". "Ok." was the response I got.
"Um...what?", I was really confused. "Ok, we'll go to Disney World. I've got tickets."
"Huh???"
So on that friday we typed Walt Disney World, Orlando into our GPS and left Athens. I was every excited, a little suspicious, and slightly shocked that we were actually heading to Orlando!
Magic Kingdom was the first order of business. We excited entered the park to find thousands of fellow tourists, we even made friends with several couples from different countries! The magic of Disney knows no borders and it made me happy. :)
We spent the long hot day exploring the park and sat right next to the statue of Walt and Mickey, facing Cinderella's Castle and waited for the Electric Parade and fireworks show. This was when I noticed that Shaun was starting to sweat, and it was not because of the temperature.
He anxiously waited until right before the grand finale of the firework show to kneel down in front of hundreds of people and asked to be my prince charming. Actually, he specifically said "You make my dreams come true, will you live happily ever after with me?" For those of you who don't know Shaun, he is terrified of speaking in public. And here he was, on his knees, intensely watched by hundreds of strangers while nervously trying to ask me to marry him.
Need I tell you what happened next? His nerves got the better of him and the boy forgot all that he planned! All the words he had memorized went out of his head. Shaun then proceeded to adorably stumbled through his now non-existent speech :). When he was finished, (due to the loud sound of the fireworks and whatever else that was going on in his head) Shaun missed the part where I said Yes! and did not hear my answer!
Shaun then proceeded to stare at me for a good five to ten seconds! What else was he suppose to do?
I then burst out laughing and repeated myself, " I said yes love". We hugged and Shaun finally got to enjoy the grand finale in peace as the beloved Disney song "When you wish upon a star" played in the back ground. We ended the night engaged, and that was the beginning of our own "happily ever after".
When you wish upon a star...your dreams come true."
