This is incredibly exciting news! Zack Snyder did a great job directing 300, and Watchmen wasn't the worst movie I have seen. After the relaunching of the Superman franchise with Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, I was left wanting more. More in the sense of a sequel and more in the sense of a better story line, more enticing characters (and actors playing the characters), and a further widening of the appeal to a larger audience outside of the Superman fan base.
The movie was a hit-and-miss experience for most that I have talked with. I liked it, didn't love it; but did I like it simply because I could draw out the good and the super-hero inspiration that I wanted to being a Superman fan? Or was it really a decent movie that could entertain an audience that isn't as necessarily invested in the franchise as I am? Based on my small anecdotal survey, the former is unfortunately more true.
Let's hope Zack Snyder can bring some kickassery back to the franchise, and reinvigorate an audience that has become jaded by the recent proliferation of super-hero movies. I would love to see Superman get to the level of acclaim that the Dark Knight has reached, but would be completely satisfied with the level of popularity surrounding Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Currently, the franchise is two steps below the Batman franchise, stuck between the questionably successful X-men and Spiderman franchises but still ahead of the Hulk franchise (at least in my opinion).
Fortunately, Christopher Nolan, the successful director and co-writer of the Dark Knight, is producing the upcoming Snyder Superman, so maybe my dreams of the franchise growing to the box office strength that Nolan's previous film reached will soon come true. Either way I am excited and hopeful for the direction that the franchise is heading! Read the full article here:
